Radgies opens bigger takeaway in Darlington town centre

Radgie’s has officially relocated to 7 Blackwellgate, next door to Uno Momento, just months after first launching on Victoria Road.

The street food-style venue, run by 23-year-old owner Ishy Miah, has quickly built a strong following since opening in February this year, prompting the move to a larger, more central site.

Speaking ahead of the opening today (June 9), Mr Miah said he was both β€œexcited and a little bit nervous” as the team prepared to welcome customers through the doors.

He said: β€œIt’s been a bit stressful trying to get everything on track and ready, but it’s exciting and I’m looking forward to opening at our new venue.”

The new premises will allow the business to expand both its kitchen space and menu, with new additions including donner dishes and milkshakes, alongside more items planned in the coming weeks.

Since launching, Radgie’s has become known for its mix of β€œbig city flavours”, serving dishes inspired by Nashville and South Asian cuisine including smash burgers, fried chicken, pizzas and parmos.

Mr Miah previously told The Northern Echo the decision to relocate came after being β€œoverwhelmed” by demand.

He said: β€œWe only opened a couple of months ago, and we’ve honestly been overwhelmed by how busy it’s been.

β€œOur current place is quite big, but the kitchen is small. The new premises will give us a much larger kitchen, plus a prep room at the back and more floor space overall.”

He added that the town centre location would also make the business more accessible.

The owner said: β€œThe new place is in the town centre, which is just down the road from where we are now, so it’ll be much more convenient, especially for drivers getting in and out.”

The move marks a significant milestone for the young entrepreneur, who has worked in hospitality since his early teens at his dad’s long-established venue CafΓ© Spice.

He said: β€œI’ve been working in hospitality since I was about 13 years old. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do.

β€œI thought this is the kind of food I’d want in a town, what you’d find in big cities like Newcastle, and I believed it would do really well in Darlington.”

Radgie’s will now be open seven days a week from its new location, with both delivery and collection services continuing as normal.

The business said it has β€œbigger plans” ahead as it settles into its new home in the heart of the town centre.
