Newcastle College students showcase designs at Eldon Square
The ‘Future Heritage’ showcase, launched at Eldon Square in Newcastle, highlights the work of around 80 Newcastle College students through live experiences in fashion, culture, and design.
Helen Cowie, centre director at Eldon Square, said: “Newcastle has always been a city full of creativity, character and pride, and Future Heritage brings that to life for everyone visiting Eldon Square.
“Itβs a chance for shoppers to discover something new, see incredible local talent up close and be part of celebrating the cityβs next generation of designers.

“Weβre proud to be working with Newcastle College and Fenwick to create an experience that puts Newcastle creativity centre stage.”
The students’ garments and surface textile designs are inspired by the cityβs heritage and Eldon Squareβs 50th anniversary.
Their work is being reviewed by a panel including Fenwick store director Kieran McBride, Ms Cowie, Libby Lagun, head of curriculum for art and design at Newcastle College, and representatives from the British Fashion Council.
Shortlisted surface print designs will be revealed soon, offering the public an early preview of standout designs.
The overall winner will have their work displayed in a dedicated window at Fenwick Newcastle, providing prominent visibility at one of the cityβs most iconic retail spaces.
Jon Ridley, principal of Newcastle College, said: “Future Heritage is giving our students at Newcastle College the professional standards, confidence and understanding of creative practice, and how this translates into a commercial setting.
“Experiences like these are invaluable in preparing students for careers in the creative industries.”
The project will conclude with a major public fashion show at the highly anticipated Freight Island venue this September, where the final designs will be showcased on the runway.
Visitors will be able to experience the final designs live, as emerging talent takes to the runway in a celebration of Newcastleβs creativity.
Additional events and experiences will be announced throughout the year as part of the evolving Future Heritage programme.
