Spennymoor launches interactive Jubilee Park history trails
Spennymoor Town Council has teamed up with Go Well Trails to launch a pilot scheme in Jubilee Park, combining wellbeing, fun, and fresh air with heritage discovery.
The digital trails are designed to get people moving while learning more about Spennymoorβs rich history and community.
Councillor Billy McAloon, leader of Spennymoor Town Council, said: “Spennymoor has a proud history and a strong sense of community and weβre always looking at new ways to celebrate that while encouraging people to make the most of our fantastic public spaces.
“These trails are a brilliant way of bringing people together, learning about where we live, exercising and generally just a fun pastime for all age groups.
“You might discover something new about the town, enjoy time with family or have a reason to get out and about β we hope residents will embrace the experience.
“The Town Council is committed to investing in projects that create pride in our communities and ensure people learn about, and feel connected to, the place they call home.”
From 26 April to 27 June 2026, the interactive trail uses the Go Well Trails app to guide users around Jubilee Park using QR codes placed along the route.
The codes reveal clues and questions on topics including Spennymoorβs heritage, art, science, and sport.
Participants earn points by answering questions and can learn new facts as they explore the park.
The project is designed to boost civic pride, support physical and mental wellbeing, and celebrate the townβs unique identity.
The scheme is open to people of all ages.
Visitors just need a smartphone or tablet and an email address to register.
To take part, visitors fill out a registration form, download the Go Well Trails app, and wait for an invite email to register on the app before heading to Jubilee Park to start exploring.
