The Talbot in Bishopton to close as owner steps down

The Talbot, located at The Green in Bishopton, between Darlington and Stockton, has confirmed it will temporarily close after owner Chris Ranby announced his decision to leave the business.

In a statement shared on social media yesterday (Wednesday, January 14), Mr Ranby said the decision had not been taken lightly.

He said: β€œIt is with deepest regret, but unfortunately, I am leaving The Talbot.

β€œA lot of thought has gone into this, but I feel my time has come to let someone else run the business.”

Rated 4.4 stars on TripAdvisor, The Talbot has become a popular community hub in recent years, praised for its welcoming atmosphere and high-quality food.

Mr Ranby thanked customers for their support throughout his time running the pub, adding that he is continuing to work behind the scenes to keep the business afloat and reopen as soon as possible.

The post added: β€œI would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has used, supported and shared The Talbot throughout my time here.

β€œI still want the best for The Talbot and did not want the place to close.”

News of the closure has been met with disappointment from locals, saying they were β€œvery sorry” to hear the news.

One person said: β€œGood luck, sorry to hear you’re leaving. Best food around by miles – we shall miss it.”

While another person commented: β€œGutted to hear you’re leaving Chris! Your Sunday lunches have been fantastic, we’ll miss them. Good luck with everything!”

Mr Ranby has confirmed the pub will be closed until a new owner is appointed, and a reopening date has yet to be confirmed.
