The Lock Gates at Hartlepool Marina has been a staple for customers in the area and is best known for its breakfasts and Sunday dinners.
Taking to social media yesterday (May 25) the owners shared the news with their longstanding customers.
The post said: βFor the last seven years, The Lock Gates has been more than just a place that serves coffee and food, it has become a place where we have had the pleasure of getting to know our lovely loyal customers.
βWhen we opened the door seven years ago, we hoped it would turn the cafΓ© around turn it into a friendly meeting place, but what we got was so much more than that.
βTo every single one of you who walked through the Lock Gates door be it to order a coffee, catch up with friends or just sat quietly while you worked β thank you.β
The owners said running the cafΓ© has been one of their βgreatest achievementsβ and that it has become a community hub over the years.
The post added: βYou have been the heart and soul of our little cafΓ© and have turned ordinary days into special moments and made running this little cafΓ© into one of our greatest achievements.
βThere have been manic days and quiet times and everything in-between – and through it all your kindness, friendship and loyalty has kept us going. So today as we close the doors for the final time, we do so with a heart of gratitude and wonderful memories.β
The owners said they are looking forward to a slower pace of life, but thanked customers for making the cafΓ© βincredibly specialβ.
They added: βWhile I am looking forward to having time to rest and enjoy life at a slower pace, please know that we all will miss being part of your daily routine.
