Black Caps opener Finn Allen has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I Tri-Series in Zimbabwe after sustaining a foot injury whilst playing for the San Francisco Unicorns in the Major League Cricket tournament.
Allen’s recovery timeline will be determined once he has returned to New Zealand and received further specialist consultations.
The 26-year-old Allen opted not to hold a central contract with New Zealand.
He had been having some good outings with the Unicorns – including breaking the world record for most sixes in the T20 innings, smashing 19 to move past the mark held by West Indies blaster Chris Gayle.
A replacement player has not yet been named.
The Black Caps arrive in Harare on Thursday ahead of their first Tri-Series match against South Africa on 16 July.
