MAPPED: Reform take control of Durham County Council
The council had been in No Overall Control since 2021, being run by a coalition of Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, Greens and Independents.
That has now drastically changed, with Reform holding 65 of the 98 seats on the council. Labour lost 38 seats on the council, now holding just four after boundary changes saw the number of seats drop to 98 from 126.
Just after 1pm on Friday, May 2, Reform passed the 49-seat threshold needed to take control of the council.
Nigel Farage’s party targeted the county throughout the campaign, with the Clacton MP visiting the region on multiple occasions, including in Stanley, where the party ousted Labour Group leader Carl Marshall from his seat.
It is a historic result. Reform won 65 seats,ย with no other party or grouping winning more than 14 seats.
The map details where Reform won their seats, including in Annfield Plain, where former GB News presenter Darren Grimes was elected.
