County Durham and Teesside MPs expenses since election

Analysis of the MP’s register of interests and Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) figures show how much County Durham and Teesside MPs have claimed since July 2024, when the election was held.

On average, they claimed £27,189.25 in expenses.

The highest amount was Hartlepool MP Jonathan Brash’s £38,414.96 claim, with Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland’s Luke Myers claiming the lowest at £12,562.84.

Expenses, registered through IPSA, are costs that MPs can claim for accommodation in London, office items and staffing; however, staff pay is given directly from IPSA to MPs’ staff.

Figures for expenses claims are only available up to January, but data for donations is updated for June 2025.

In total, between July 2024 and June 2025, £353,460.24 of expenses was claimed by the region’s MPs, while donations and gifts made up to £308,582.30.

Election donations that were given in advance of the MPs’ time in office were filed after election day as per Parliamentary rules.

“I take the responsibility of spending public money seriously and keep these costs tightly controlled while ensuring I remain present and accessible to constituents.”

“Separately, I received £22,000 in donations. None of these are public money. The vast majority consists of individual supporters donating to my local Labour Party to pay for my General Election campaign and subsequent campaigning.

“I also had a trip to Washington DC paid for by Labour Friends of Israel, so that I could attend a conference and meet US Congressmen and State Department officials.”

“If someone runs an office for six months, and another for a year, the chances are they are going to spend significantly less.

“Unlike some MPs, I never claim for luxuries like food, expensive office refurbishments, or first-class rail travel. All my office expenses are as cost efficient as possible and I have consistently been one of the lowest claiming local MPs.”

All MPs were contacted for a comment.

All data is accurate as of June 30, 2025 and does not include expenses claims from after January 2025.
