New Look store in Durham Prince Bishop Place’s closed
New Look at Prince Bishop Place in Durham city centre closed on Friday (April 17), leaving many customers disappointed.
The clothing retailer announced the closure on its official Prince Bishops Place Facebook page, sharing a message to customers as the store shut its doors for the last time.
In the post, the company wrote: “Durham City… youβve been iconic! Today, we close the doors at New Look, Prince Bishops Place, for the final time.”
A message from staff at the store was also shared with shoppers who had supported the shop over the years.
The message from the team said: “Itβs hard to say goodbye. Weβve truly loved being part of this incredible community and serving you over the years.
“To every single customer who’s walked through our doors – thank you. Youβve made this store so special. Durham, we will carry you with us always!
“With love, From your New Look team.”
Customers wishing to shop with the retailer will now need to travel to the nearest branch, located a few miles away at Durham Arnison Retail Park.
The closure follows several other New Look store shutdowns across the region in recent years.
The company closed its Teesside Park store in 2023, the Bishop Auckland branch in 2021, Thornaby in 2018 and the Team Valley store in February 2025.
Devastated customers took to the comments to share their disappointment.
One said: “Aw, thank you for your service, New Look & their staff. End of an era! Wishing you all the best for the future.”
Another added: “Awww no, I loved that New Look and the staff were a credit to the company. Good luck to all the lovely staff in finding new employment.”
One more commented: “Another shop gone, barely any left in Durham now! Basically, eating and drinking were now used to love a day in Durham shopping years ago.”
Another said: “What an awful shame. Good luck for the future. I will miss you. I loved shopping in New Look. Very sad, yet another shop closed.”
