Plans for Chester-le-Street takeaway submitted to council
Proposals, submitted to the council on January 26, are to convert a currently empty shop unit at 46 Gibside, Chester-le-Street, into a takeaway.
The application was submitted by Mrs Xiao Zeng of Gateshead, with Miko Engineering Ltd acting as the agent.
The shop unit is currently vacant and was previously used as an office.
A proposed change of use would see the unit transformed with the addition of a kitchen canopy and ventilation system.
No construction work has started yet.
The application outlines that there will be no changes to vehicle or pedestrian access, and no new roads or public rights of way are required.
Waste from the takeaway will be stored in the rear service area, with collection arranged through Durham County Council’s trade waste collection service.

The proposal does not include any additional parking spaces for motorcycles, bicycles, or disability access as the existing car park provides 30 spaces.
It is already connected to the mains sewer, and no changes to surface water drainage are required.
The planning application states that there will be no changes to the building’s walls, roof, windows, doors, boundary access, or lighting.
The unit will remain at its current size of 83 square metres, and no increase or decrease in the floor space is proposed.
Application forms indicate the takeaway will not affect any protected species or designated habitats, nor will it impact geological conservation areas.
There are no trees or hedges on or adjacent to the site.
The proposed business will employ four full-time employees and intended operating hours are Monday to Saturday, from 5.30pm to 10.45pm.
Planning application forms do not state operating hours for Sundays and Bank Holidays.
It will now be considered by the planning department at Durham County Council.
