Open-air concerts set for Auckland Palace in Bishop Auckland

The Auckland Project Building said building on last year’s Summer Fest success, it is planning to hold two nights of music and festival vibes at Auckland Palace in June.

On Friday June 27, Proms at the Palace will feature the 23-piece Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Ben Crick, performing a global programme of classical favourites.Proms at the Palace Proms at the Palace (Image: Duncan Lomax)

The following night, Saturday, June 28, will see The Barricade Boys, a theatrical vocal group from London’s West End, perform a mix of pop, rock, swing, and Motown hits.

They will also perform songs from Les Misérables and the Jersey Boys.

Concertgoers can enjoy a range of street food, including loaded mac and cheese, mini fish and chips, and deconstructed cheesecake pots.

There will also be a drinks area with mobile bars, wine, gin, and soft drink stations.Publicity poster Publicity poster (Image: Auckland Project)

For a more ‘exclusive experience’, concertgoers can pre-order Palace Picnics, packed with Northumberland cheeses, meats, chutneys, and sourdough.

These have limited availability, so early booking is advised.

Vic Cunningham, head of visitor experience at The Auckland Project, said: “Following on from the success of Summer Fest last year, we look forward to welcoming visitors to Auckland Palace where they will be able to soak up the summer atmosphere and enjoy the timeless melodies, set against the historic backdrop of Auckland Palace.
