Olive’s Hair Darlington makes best hairdresser final

Every day over the next ten days, we will be featuring one of our top ten finalists, chosen by our readers.

Today The Northern Echo speaks to Olivia Paige Miles owner of Olive’s Hair situated in the One & Only salon on Northgate in Darlington. 

Olivia, 26, from Darlington has been working in the salon since June last year and has been hairdressing for ten years. 

Olivia Paige Miles, 26, owner of Olive Hair (Image: OLIVIA PAIGE MILES) Olivia said: “From a young age I have always had a creative flare. I loved art and fashion at school. So when thinking about my career I wanted to do something innovative.

“Hairdressing was the key that fitted so many creative opportunities for myself.

“I studied at Darlington College for my first year and then decided I wanted to do an apprenticeship. This honestly was the stepping stone of my career, I worked in a salon called Hobson and Holmes for 9 years where my biggest mentor was my boss (Nicholas Fletcher-Holmes). 

“From working in the salon I built up a busy clientele, entered Goldwells colour zoom new talent competition and made it to the top 10 in the UK!

“After so many years in the salon, I needed to spread my wings and go self-employed. This was the biggest decision I have ever made but it’s made me grow as an individual and my business.

“I want to offer a huge thank you to all of my customers for nominating me as one of the top 10 hairdressers in Darlington.

“The recognition means everything to me. Hairdressing is beautiful. To create, inspire and make a difference. May Olive’s hair continue to grow each day!”

Lauren Gaffney, 28, owner of One and Only, the salon Olivia rents a chair in on Northgate, said: “We opened in April last year and offer hairdressers the option to rent a chair in our premises.

“I wanted people to be able to start their career at my salon and I am so happy that so many young hairdressers are able to do this here.

Lauren also wanted to thank all of their customers who visit One & Only and looks forward to the future and any new potential clients.
