LISTED: Michelin star restaurants in the North East
The ceremony saw the addition of another restaurant from the North East to the upper echelons of the British food industry after Forge at Middleton Lodge was awarded a Michelin star.
The restaurant, a 12-minute drive from Darlington town centre, is headed by chef Jake Jones who said the award was a ‘dream come true’.
“We have an amazing team at Middleton Lodge and this award means so much to all of us. Our guests’ experience is our priority, and I love what I do,” Mr Jones said.
“I would like to thank everyone who has dined at Forge and the incredible Middleton Lodge team. And I would like to thank James Allison for believing in me and the restaurant, and Glen Taylor, our General Manager, for his support.”
Forge joins the small list of Michelin-star awarded venues in the region alongside Newcastle’s two recipients House of Tides and Solstice.
Rounding up the list in the region is Hjem, a Scandinavian-inspired venue in Wall, Hexham.

“On Monday 10th February, the new Michelin Stars were unveiled at The Michelin Guide Ceremony 2025, held at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum in Glasgow,” a spokesperson for the Michelin Guide said.
“Jake Jones, the 2024 Young Chef Award winner, is also delivering on his promise with skilful cooking at the sustainably minded Forge in Middleton Tyas.

“The awards span across the UK and Ireland, with Edinburgh having had a particularly good year with two new Starred restaurants.
“There is also cause for celebration in Cardiff, as the city earns its first Michelin Star, and Bristol, which has a new Star and three new Bib Gourmands.
“A range of cuisines are represented too, with the UK’s first-ever One-Star Greek restaurant, a Korean Star and the first plant-based restaurant to receive a Michelin Star.”
