Lidl’s new 59p School Cake bakery treat causes a stir online



The supermarket’s latest addition to its popular range of sweet treats is proving to be a hit with shoppers, with several posts online.

The brand has announced the launch ofĀ its School Cake, which features vanilla-flavoured sponge and is topped with buttercream and rainbow sprinkles.

A slice will cost you 59p, but you’ll need to hurry to try it as it’s only available in stores across the country until June 11.

Shared on Instagram page @uknewestfoods, it received rave reviews, while others couldn’t wait to recall memories.

ā€œJust eaten two of these with my lunch, oops! Delicious,ā€ wrote person wrote.

ā€œYep bought mine today, and it was very tasty,ā€ another added.

ā€œOmg my dreams of eating this again might just become a reality,ā€ one person enthused.

ā€œThis actually looks amazing – I’d eat the whole tray,ā€ another commented.

However, some people on a similar Facebook page were unsure if whether the bake would be as good as what they remembered.

ā€œOld school cake is not this type of icing, this is just sprinkle cake, you can’t say it’s something that it’s not,ā€ one person said.

ā€œAh what memories! But never will it compare to what we had in school,ā€ another person added.

The retailer’s bakery has a cult-like following, and last year was crownedĀ the nation’s favourite, beating rivals like Tesco and Sainsbury’s.

The School Cake is the first of many treats to cause a stir with shoppers in recent weeks.

There’s been the Mini Egg BrownieĀ andĀ Cinnamon Bun Blondie and theĀ Cheesecake BrownieĀ too.

The Cheesecake Brownie is also a limited edition treat only available in shops until May 28.
