Hot food available for those without power in County Durham


They have worked with leisure centres and community centres around the region to ensure that there areย warm meals available tonight.

Northern Powergrid has confirmed that its teams have been working tirelessly since Friday to restore power to over 150,000 homes and businesses, but the final repairs are proving challenging in some of the hardest-hit areas.

The company hopesย to complete the remaining work by the end of today.

A Northern Powergrid spokesperson said: “We’re continuing to support those impacted by Storm ร‰owyn and our food vans are continuing to serve hot drinks and dinner at the following locations from 5pm – 9pm, even if your power has been restored at this point.”

The spokesperson added: “With the support of our local resilience partners we have arranged for all council leisure centres in Durham and Northumberland to be used if people want to freshen up, have a shower and get a warm drink.

“Please check the opening hours with your local leisure centre directly.
