Darlington’s Marketplace Fish N Chips welcomes customers
Marketplace Fish N’ Chips, which can be found at the back of Darlington Market, finally opened for business in February after first teasing its opening back in June 2024.
Owner Adam Gilmore, 33, admitted fish and chips is his “guilty pleasure” – and took the leap to set up his very own chippy after his daughter was born last year.

Adam, from Darlington, told The Northern Echo: “I have ran a business before, but I’ve never ventured into the catering industry. I do love fish and chips – it is a staple food.
“It’s traditional grub and my guilty pleasure – who doesn’t enjoy it?”

“At the minute, we are still relatively undiscovered but we have had some lovely customers and great reviews.”

“I think its good quality cod, it’s flaky, thick, meaty and lightly battered,” he said.
“I don’t think I can give it less than 8 out of 10.”
