Bowe Hair and Scalp Clinic makes best hairdresser final

We’re on the lookout for the best hairdresser in County Durham and our readers have narrowed it down to ten finalists.

Today The Northern Echo speaks to Diane Bowe, owner of Bowe Hair & Scalp Clinic on Hallview Grove, Darlington, about her special treatments, attention to the client’s needs, and her experiences with anxiety which shaped the business.

Diane’s hairdressing career began in 2010, but she branched out into scalp care in 2021 the covid pandemic caused delays to her original 2020 opening date.

As well as hairdressing, Diane is also a qualified trichologist (a specialist in the science of health of the hair and scalp) after training for three years.

Some of her treatments include keratolytic and wet treatments, microneedling, laser treatment and UV light therapy for psoriasis.

The salon is inclusive to all who may feel uncertain when picking a salon or clinic, such as those who wear wigs or hide their hair for religious reasons.

After dealing with postnatal anxiety, Diane said, that although she loved the people, the salon she worked at felt overwhelming. Her salon instead caters to those with anxiety to relieve any stress surrounding a haircut or treatment.

Diane said: “Customers become my family. Like they are coming to their second home. I sometimes get messages from customers just telling me how things are going.”

Bowe Hair & Scalp Clinic also does all the hairdressing you would usually expect: cuts, blow dries, tints, colours, and highlights.

Up until February 15, Diane has been running the business alone. She hired a new worker, Amanda, to perform their Japanese Head Spa treatment.

It is an authentic Japanese treatment, including a head massage, deep conditioning mist, scalp detoxification and waterfall therapy.
