Anson Farm in Thornaby to be transformed into Hickory’s
Hickory’s has announced it will be taking over Anson Farm, on Teesside Industrial Estate, and bringing the taste of the deep south to the North East.
The chain, which first launched in 2010, is known for its range of southern American food from hot dogs and pulled pork to steaks, burgers, and baby back ribs.
To make way for the new development, Anson Farm is earmarked to close in August before reopening as Hickory’s Smokehouse in winter 2025.

The firm said it will be making a “significant investment” in the Perry Avenue venue, with the team putting the final touches to exciting plans and more to be revealed this Autumn.
Located between Ingleby Barwick and Thornaby, Anson Farm first launched in April 2015 under the Farmhouse Inns, one of the branches of national operator Greene King.

It currently serves up classic pub food – including burgers, pies, grills, and sharers – and is often praised for its “melt in the mouth” carvery offering.
Meanwhile Hickory’s, which launched in Chester, was acquired by investor Greene King in 2018 and has gone on to open venues in the North West, Midlands, Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and North Wales.

Its nearest venue to the region is currently in York.
Staff have been told of the development.
A spokesperson said: “We are excited to be heading to Thornaby– it’s a new area and a new county for us but one that we have been looking at for some time.
