Amare Kitchen and Bar, in New Marske, announces closure

Amare Kitchen and Bar has been nestled in the heart of New Marske since chef Mark Walker opened the doors in October 2023.

The Kilbridge Close venue offered relaxed fine dining with a seasonally changing menu – garnering huge praise for its “absolutely delicious” food offerings.

However, this week, the venue announced “with a heavy heart” that it would be closing for good.

A statement online cited food, rent, and wages costs rising and said it was “not a decision that has been taken lightly”.

It added that this marked “another chapter” for Mark, who has worked at some of the region’s top restaurants including The Orangery at Rockliffe Hall and Forge at Middleton Lodge Estate.

The full statement said: “Firstly we’d like to apologise for the silence on our end. We have really appreciated all the messages of concern and support.

“It is with an extremely heavy heart that we must unfortunately announce the closing of our beloved shop. It’s been a rough few months and this is not a decision that’s been taken lightly.

“Blood, sweat, and tears have gone into making Amare the amazing place it was.

“However, prices continue to rise, food, rent, wages go up, all things out of our control which make it almost impossible for a small business to survive.

“We have loved every minute of being open to you lovely lot and we thank each and every person who has walked through Amare doors, shared our posts or passed on good feedback.

“We genuinely loved getting to know you all. What amazing people we have met!

“It may be time for Amare to close its doors but this is just another chapter for Mark and I have every faith in him and know how much people value him and his food. I hope you can help support him through this difficult time and new adventures.”

Another added: “Really sorry to hear this, Mark you have real talent and cook the most amazing food! Please let us know where your next venture is.

“Thanks for the lovely meals and good luck to you all.”
