Durham Brewery’s new tap room in Bowburn hailed a success

The Durham Brewery Tap Room in Bowburn, which opened six months ago, has quickly become a central gathering place for the County Durham community.

The village had been left without a venue to meet, socialise, and enjoy a drink together following the closure of its pubs.

One resident described the new venue as “the best thing that’s happened here for ages.”

They said: “We had nowhere to go, nowhere to meet up, and now we have this.

“It’s ours, it’s local, and it’s exactly what we needed.

“It really feels like we have our community back together again.”

The space, operated by Durham Brewery, is open to the public on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons.

The brewery, a long-standing business in the area for 32 years, made the decision to open a community space in response to the changing social landscape in Bowburn.

Owner Mark Wilson said: “We’ve been part of this community for 32 years, and when we saw how much was lost when the local pubs closed, we knew we wanted to do something to help.

“Opening the Tap Room felt like the natural step – we had the space, we had the passion, and most importantly we wanted to give people somewhere they could call their own.”

“In just six months, the response has been incredible, and it has grown faster than we ever expected.

“Seeing people come together, chat, laugh and enjoy being part of something again has been the most rewarding part of all. We’re not just a brewery – we’re part of this area, and we want to be here supporting everyone for many years to come.”

The tap room offers Durham Brewery’s full selection of award-winning beers.

It has quickly established itself as a popular meeting spot, drawing praise for its relaxed atmosphere and sense of belonging.

In addition to serving drinks, the tap room hosts a growing calendar of community events.

Regular activities already include bike nights, live music, and beer festivals held three times a year.

Durham Brewery’s tap room is open every Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.

The brewery shop remains open throughout the week for take-home purchases.
