West Rainton Cathedral Meadows development shortlisted for award

Banks Homes was recognised for its Cathedral Meadows development in West Rainton and shortlisted in the Best Community Initiative category at the 2025 Housebuilder Awards.

The awards celebrate excellence across the UK residential property sector and highlight projects that demonstrate genuine engagement with local communities.

Russ Hall, managing director at Banks Homes, said: “Our Development With Care approach puts local communities at the heart of everything we do and to be recognised for the quality of this work in the Housebuilder Awards is testament to the effectiveness of this approach.

“The community’s response to our consultation work has been extremely positive, with widespread recognition of the breadth of the work that we’ve done, how we’ve listened properly and how we’ve fulfilled our promises.”

Cathedral Meadows is Banks Homes’ first large-scale residential scheme and will deliver up to 150 homes, along with a community hub, play area, landscaped spaces, and public open areas.

The firm has focused on building relationships with key stakeholders in the village and has supported a variety of local projects through a dedicated community fund.

This has included funding for a lunch club, youth activities, and the restoration of the village church clock chimes.

Banks has also involved West Rainton Primary School in the project, hosting site visits and sending team members to speak to pupils about construction and sustainability.

Alison McDonough, headteacher at West Rainton Primary School, said: “Banks has involved the school in so many aspects of the Cathedral Meadows development and this has been so much more than token gestures.”

The first residents have now moved into their new homes, with more expected to follow throughout the summer.

Winners of the 2025 Housebuilder Awards will be announced at a gala dinner in London in November.
