Washington: Firm to double workforce after securing contracts

Fairgrieve Compression Moulding, based in Washington, Tyne and Wear, has announced plans to expand its workforce due to a surge in demand for its “specialist compression moulding expertise.”

The company is set to achieve a “record turnover in 2025” after securing several new contracts, including a “multi-million pound order” for hundreds of thousands of electrical parts for worldwide distribution.

The firm anticipates that by 2025 it will have doubled its current number of employees.

It has already begun a recruitment drive, with new employees being trained by production manager Johnathon Hutchinson.

He said: “We are looking forward to welcoming new members to our team and providing them with the training they need to help us meet the increasing demand for our products.”

Mr Hutchinson began his career with the firm as an apprentice at the age of 19, almost 15 years ago.

As a result of the increased demand, the company has moved to 24-hour shift work and plans to introduce seven-day working once the team is fully trained.

Fairgrieve Compression Moulding managing director, Barry Davidson, said: “It really is amazing to see such high levels of demand for new work at a time when the manufacturing sector in the UK is struggling.

“I think we’re reaping the rewards of a lot of very hard work done a couple of years ago to transform the business, to become much more efficient, whilst bringing innovation and inspiration into our work culture.”

The latest contract has seen a major international company turn to Fairgrieve Compression Moulding for their “knowledge and experience of manufacturing specialist electrical components which will be supplied into a global market.”

Mr Davidson added: “The name Fairgrieve Compression Moulding has a great history, but is now synonymous with specialist modern, innovative thermoset moulding, supplying into a vast number of manufacturing sectors.”
