Middlesbrough market welcomes seven new traders
Middlesbrough’s market has seen a ‘major pre-Christmas investment’, creating extra space for seven new units.
The redevelopment of the former Fulton’s Food store, closed since 2021, has allowed popular businesses like ASB Football Shirts and PM Toys and Collectables to expand into larger shops.
The new mini-mall is now home to a variety of independent traders, including Heaven on Earth, Sharon’s Handmade Crafts, and Bloody Creations.
Retro fashion shop Vintage 101 has also joined the market, and is already attracting customers from across Teesside.
Subhan Beg, owner of Vintage 101, said: “The places that used to cater for men, particularly, who like their designer clothes have gone.
“People like the retro, vintage gear because of its quality and you can’t get any of this stuff on the high street anymore.”
Vintage 101 sells classic men’s and women’s fashions from the 1950s, 60s and 70s, with brands such as Sergio Tacchini, Fila, Fred Perry and Tommy Hilfiger in stock.
The shop has also been appointed a UK stockist for Lambretta.
In the older section of the market, a reshuffle has created opportunities for new and returning businesses, such as LMC Clearance run by Phil.
Phil, who had to take time out for a knee replacement, now has a more prominent spot for his business.
“These are difficult times,” he said, “and people can’t always afford to buy things.
If we can sell it keenly and cheaply it helps everybody out.”

Despite the quiet time of year for retail, indoor market manager David Harris, believes there’s a “real sense of impetus” in the market.
Mr Harris said: “When the centre of Middlesbrough has been so badly affected by big retailers pulling out, it’s such a positive sign that our owner wants to invest because he knows we’ve come up with the right formula.”
The market is now looking for a florist, men’s barber and a sandwich shop or deli-counter to round off its offerings.
