Lanchester businesses making ‘new Easter tradition’ together
Starting with a duck race and ending with karaoke in the village social club, a packed-out Easter timetable has been arranged between several businesses in Lanchester- all in aid of charity Willowburn Hospice.
Village stalwarts like The King’s Head pub,ย Crinnions, the Spar, and Lanchester Social Clubย have been joined by the newly opened Grandpa’s Fish Bar in theย hope of bringing together the community to celebrate.
It’s something Crinnions owner Mark Flood hopes will grow and become ‘a new tradition’ in the village.
“I think it’s great that everyone is getting together,” he said.
(Image: Crinnions) Mr Flood said the concept began through a conversation with the owners of another pub in the village, The King’s Head and has been in the works for six to eight weeks.
“We’re quite close with the King’s Head, we got talking one day and thought we could start this new tradition.
“We got other people involved, like the chip shop that just opened,” he said. “The lads are great there.”
(Image: Sarah Caldecott) The day starts with a duck race at 12pm, while Grandpa’s Fish Bar will be serving cones of chips and battered creme eggs between 12pm and 2pm.
An Easter bonnet parade is taking place in the park at 1pm, followed by a raffle and colouring competition at the Spar supermarket at 2pm.
There will be live music at The King’s Head between 2pm and 4pm while an Easter egg hunt and disco takes place at Crinnions between 3pm and 5pm.

A family quiz at The King’s Head at 5pm is followed by an evening of karaoke at the Social Club at 7pm to round off the Easter celebrations.
“We’re trying to create a new tradition and it raises money for a great cause. Willowburn Hospice is a brilliant cause,” Mr Flood said.
“As the years go on we hope more businesses will get involved.”
