Iceland offers job invite to Sainsbury’s and Morrisons staff



Sainsbury’s announced on Thursday (January 23) itĀ would be cutting more thanĀ 3,000 jobs, while also revealing plans to shut its remaining 61Ā in-store cafes (subject to consultation).

Morrisons also said it planned on cutting more than 200 roles withĀ staff in customer experience, employee engagement, recruitmentĀ and payroll positions among those most at risk of redundancy.

Iceland invites Sainsbury’s and Morrisons staff to apply for jobs following cuts

Following the Sainsbury’s announcement, Iceland took to X (formerly Twitter) inviting any affected staff to “check out our careers page” and apply for a new job.

It said: “We’re so sorry to hear about this.Ā If you or anyone you know has been affected, feel free to check out our careers page.

“We have lots of great opportunities here at Iceland & The Food Warehouse.”

There are currently (at the time of writing) aroundĀ 600 jobs available across Iceland’s nationwide operation.

TheĀ roles up for grabsĀ vary from retail assistant and store manger to delivery driver and HR advisor.

UK high street shops that no longer exist


An Iceland spokesperson, speaking to Grocery Gazette,Ā said: ā€œWhile many in the retail sector are facing tough decisions, we’re proud to be creating opportunities and expanding our team as we grow across the UK.ā€

ā€œThese roles reflect our ongoing commitment to investing in our business, our people, and doing the right thing by all those who make Iceland what it is today.

“We invite experienced retail staff and talented managers to come and join our team.ā€
