Hall Garth Hotel, in Darlington, to close golf course

The Hall Garth Hotel, in Coatham Mundeville, has made the “difficult decision” to end its golf offering at the end of the current membership year on March 31.

Bosses say the decision to close is due to rising financial costs in the operating and management of the course, adding that it was a “last resort”. 

It is not known what will happen to the 73 Par course, which was constructed in 1992.

The news is likely to be sad for members of the golf club, with the course having been lauded for its “beautiful” views set within 70 acres of parkland.

It is understood that members were notified of the closure this week.

However, the Hall Garth Hotel and Revive Spa, which also boasts a restaurant, gym, and rooms in its original house dating back to the 15th Century, will remain open as normal.

The company says it will “continue to invest throughout the year”. 

A full statement from General Manager Mark McGrath said: “The business had to make the difficult decision to close the golf course from midnight on March 31, 2025.

“It is with great regret that we have had to do this.

“I can also confirm that the Hall Garth Hotel and Revive Spa will remain open and the company will continue to invest throughout the year.”
