Future of The Book and Film Exchange in Darlington uncertain
The Book and Film Exchange has been a staple on Victoria Road for decades, catching the eye of many passersby on their way to Darlington Station.
The shop is widely known across the town for its extensive display on its shop front, with stacks of books and films spilling onto the street on a daily basis.
But now, its future has been left uncertain after people reportedly noticed books were no longer being put outside the front of the shop.

Pictures taken on Monday (February 24) show the shelves inside the store have since been stripped of books and now remain empty.
Posts on Facebook have since suggested that the store has closed – although this has not yet been officially confirmed.
Shoppers have since started sharing their memories of the shop, with one person calling it a “section of paradise”.

One Facebook user said: “My kids used to love walking down from the station, spending their pocket money on books, and sitting in town on a bench reading for hours on end.
“Then going back in and ‘selling’ him the books back, getting new ones – jumping back on the train and reading more!”
While Google states that the store has “permanently closed”, The Northern Echo has been unable to verify the closure – and has contacted Darlington Council for more information.
