BGF invests £130m across Northern England in 2024

BGF has made this investment through a mix of new deals and follow-on investments, aimed at fostering growth across a wide range of sectors throughout the region.

In Yorkshire and the North East, BGF has backed businesses including TaperedPlus, Tevalis, My Property Box, Boxphish, and ITC.

The company has also provided follow-on investment for Tyneside-based tech firm ReciteMe and RSK, as part of a £520 million capital injection.

Barry Jackson, regional partner at BGF, said: “Reflecting on 2024, it’s encouraging to see the breadth of Northern deals across the North East, Humberside, Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cheshire, as well as our key city regions.

“It’s also been fantastic to see our investments being deployed into such a wide range of sectors, with a particularly high focus on technology over the last 12 months, cementing the North’s position as a powerhouse of innovation and a driving force in the UK’s tech industry.”

In the North West, BGF has backed Elite Dynamics, Eleven Sports Media, Datascope Systems, Evolve Business Group, and Besseges.

The firm also invested in social media agency KOMI Group to support its international expansion and strategic M&A plans.

Mr Jackson said: “Despite the economic pressures, we will see good businesses continue to thrive in 2025.

“We’re looking forward to building on our unique position in the market and backing more Northern businesses looking to scale.

“There is significant opportunity for expansion whether that’s through investment in innovation, expanding to new markets, or through strategic buy and build.

“We believe our patient capital will continue to play a key role in driving the sustainable growth that the economy needs now and in the future.”

BGF has had a successful 2024 across the UK and Ireland, reaching the milestone of £4 billion invested since its inception in 2011.

The company also joined forces with other major investors and committed £25 million to the Invest in Women Taskforce, which has secured £250 million of funding to support female entrepreneurs and female-led businesses across the UK.

BGF was established in 2011 and has invested more than £4 billion in more than 500 companies since its launch.

It has invested in a range of sectors including technology, healthcare, business services, and consumer goods.
