Appointment of contractor for Darlington housing development
The contract will be delivered at Burtree Garden Village, on the town’s Burtree Lane, by Hall Construction Services Ltd, who are the appointed contractor for critical infrastructure.
The contract will see the delivery of a range of infrastructure for the first phase of the project which includes a new roundabout, reconfiguration of Rotary Way, 2.4km of new highway, and internal roads.
The scheme by Hellens Group in partnership with Homes England and Darlington Council is set to see a village with 2,000 homes, community facilities and green infrastructure.
Gavin Cordwell-Smith, chief executive of Hellens Group, said: “Weβre very pleased to appoint Hall Construction as the main contractor for this significant first phase of infrastructure works at Burtree Garden Village.
“As a respected regional business with deep roots in the North East, their expertise and track record align perfectly with our ambitions for the site.
“This project has special meaning as it brings together two second-generation family businesses who have long shared a commitment to delivering quality and value in the region.”
The contract will also see the delivery of utilities, drainage systems, and the central 20-acre landscape park known as Burtree Park.
Hall Construction, a regional civil engineering firm, has been in operation since 1986 and has worked on infrastructure and development schemes across the UK.
This appointment marks a significant moment for two family-run businesses from the region with intertwined histories.
Hellens was founded in 1973, and for over 35 years, the two firms were friendly competitors in the civil engineering sector before Hellens strategically repositioned as a land and property development company.
The project now brings together the second generation of both families, with a ‘shared vision for sustainable community creation’.
James Hall, director of Hall Construction, said: “We are honoured to be chosen, particularly as a local contractor, and pleased to commence construction on Burtree Garden Village.
“This marks the beginning of an exciting journey to create a thoughtfully designed community that respects and enhances the natural landscape.
“We are in great support of Hellensβs vision to deliver a place where people can live, work and thrive in harmony with the surrounding environment.
“We are proud to play a role in shaping a sustainable and vibrant future for this part of Darlington and our local area.”
