Beedle’s Chippy in Bishop Auckland to close on Sunday’s

Beedle’s Chippy on Oaklea Terrace, said it will be closing on Sundays from this weekend (May 10).

The chippy said it will give its staff “more opportunity to rest, be with their families and overall improve our service and offering”.

It also said it understands that some customers will be disappointed by the news.

Writing on Facebook, the chippy said: “After careful deliberation, Beedle’s Chippy has decided that from May 10 we will no longer be opening on a Sunday.

“Our operating hours Monday to Saturday in the shop and our deliveries will not be affected in any way with this change.

“We understand that some of our customers may be disappointed. However, this will give our staff more opportunity to rest, be with their families and overall improve our service and offering as a business.

“We appreciate our huge loyal customer base and every single customer we have, especially the ones that have visited us on a Sunday in the past.

“We are still focused on offering our customers the best food and service possible and look forward to seeing you for one of the best fish and chips in the area.”

In January, the chippy, which was founded in 1991, was revealed to be among the best 50 takeaways in the UK at the Fry Awards 2026.

All the chippy champions were secretly assessed by mystery diners on a range of aspects such as food quality, premises cleanliness, staff expertise, value for money, ease of ordering, and social media presence.Β
