Tomahawk confirms sudden closure of Morpeth restaurant

The steak chain, which has a string of sites across the North East, confirmed the shock news in a closure notice on its website.

Tomahawk has had a venue in the Northumberland town since 2023 but this was forced to close temporarily in January 2024 due to ceiling damage in the dining area.

It finally reopened to customers in July last year – but just six months later, Tomahawk has confirmed that its New Market site has shut.

A statement on the restaurant’s website said: β€œTomahawk Morpeth has closed its doors. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.

β€œGift vouchers are valid at all Tomahawk and RIO restaurants around the UK with the closest to Morpeth being Tomahawk Newcastle Quayside, followed by Rio Brazilian Steakhouse Jesmond.

β€œFor gift voucher enquires please email giftvouchers@tomahawk-steakhouse.co.uk.”

No reason behind the closure has been given at this time. The Northern Echo has contacted Tomahawk for more information on the closure.

The chain operates a number of sites across the North East including in Yarm, Middlesbrough, Saltburn, Newcastle, and Gateshead.

Bosses behind Tomahawk – who also look after sister chain Rio Brazilian Steakhouse – also recently launched La Terraza, a new tapas restaurant in Yarm that opened to rave reviews.

There are also still plans in place for Tomahawk to open its first fish and chip shop in Yarm High Street, although this was knocked back last year.
