The Original Factory Shop in Stanley closed its doors

The Original Factory Shop, on Front Street in Stanley, has now closed after more than two decades serving the community.

The closure came earlier than expected, with the store shutting on April 1, instead of April 2.

In a message posted on the shop’s Facebook page, staff confirmed the end of the business in Stanley and thanked customers and colleagues for their support over the years.

They said: “That’s the end of an era – The Original Factory Shop, Stanley is officially closed.

“We just want to say a heartfelt thank you to all of our wonderful customers. Your support, loyalty, and friendly faces have meant more to us than words can say.

“To our incredible team, past and present – thank you for your hard work, dedication, and for making the shop what it was. We couldn’t have done it without you.

“It’s been a privilege to be part of the community, and we’ll always cherish the memories we’ve made together.

“Thank you for everything.

“We will hopefully see you in our next ventures, whatever they may be.”

Customers quickly shared messages of support and sadness following the announcement, praising the staff.

One customer wrote: “Cant believe you are gone. All amazing staff never rushed you and if on the floor always had time to chat. Good luck in all your future, you will be missed.”

Another said: “So sad good luck to all the staff for the future.”

A third added: “Best of luck to you all ,and thank you for all your hard work you will be sadly missed in Stanley.”

One customer shared memories of visiting the shop with their child, writing: “Always lovely staff! Lots of memories coming here with our son since he was teeny, he loved looking at the toy section and always came away with something, good luck to you all.”

The closure comes after the company entered administration earlier this year, with administrators from Interpath Advisory appointed on January 28.

Rick Harrison, managing director at Interpath and joint administrator, previously said “trading challenges” had caused the business to go into administration.

He said: “The Original Factory Shop has long been a cornerstone of local high streets up and down the country.

“Unfortunately, however, trading challenges have impacted the business such that the company had to be placed into administration.”

The Stanley closure follows the loss of other nearby branches in Shildon, Chester-le-Street and Spennymoor within the past year.
