The North East and North Yorkshire Michelin-star restaurants
Nine North East and North Yorkshire restaurants have been awarded a prestigious Michelin star.
Monday’s ceremony (February 9) saw the addition of another restaurant from the region to the upper echelons of the British food industry after Fifty Two in Harrogate was awarded its first star.
Fifty Two joins the list of Michelin-star awarded venues in the region alongside Newcastle’s two recipients House of Tides and Solstice.
Here is a list of all the restaurants in the North East and North Yorkshire with a Michelin star after Monday’s ceremony:
North East
- House of Tides β Newcastle upon Tyne
What Michelin said: “Detailed, original dishes β such as chicken strozzapreti with spinach, peas and parmesan β are based around fine produce and offer punchy flavours, while also maintaining a lightness of touch.”

What Michelin said: “This intimate, personably run restaurant is just around the corner from the eponymous chef-ownerβs flagship, House of Tides, and serves a multi-course tasting menu of well-balanced, highly intricate and complex dishes.
“The kitchenβs skill allows top-drawer ingredients to shine, whether that be scallops or pigeon.”
What Michelin said: “The open kitchen takes centre stage at Cal and SiΓ’n Byerley’s rustic restaurant, where they’re all about showcasing Northumbrian ingredients.
“Cal knows the local area intimately, plucking fresh ingredients from the kitchen garden and leading his team on foraging missions.”
North Yorkshire
What Michelin said: “The cooking is driven by produce from their farm, such as superb Herdwick lamb presented in two servings.
“The chefs work in total harmony with the gardeners, and an array of preservation techniques are used to ensure their ingredients last.”
What Michelin said: ” In a playful touch, βDessert Island Discsβ allows guests to choose a track to play while the puddings are served.
“Said desserts are a highlight, such as the exquisitely executed honey custard tart crafted from their own honey.”
What Michelin said: “The tasting menu β which also comes in both vegetarian and vegan forms β features seasonal produce, including some grown on the Estate, where they even harvest their own honey and birch sap.”
