The Feather Trail located in Helmsley is an independently owned cafΓ©, serving locally roasted Dancing Goat coffee with β€œcomforting, homely-styled” menus using ingredients sourced only miles away.

Founded in 2020, it’s known for its breakfast, brunch and lunchtime dishes, as well as a full range of loose-leaf teas, β€œdistinctive” homemade cakes and an β€œexclusive takeaway menu to enjoy on your country walk, at your work bench or in the comforts of your home”.

Sharing the thoughtful reason behind its unique name, the foodie spot’s website says: β€œβ€˜The Feather Trail’ connects our cafe with our own personal journeys, trekking through Yorkshire on our down time.

β€œWe have explored a lot of the trails, bridleways and public footpaths that sprawl throughout North Yorkshire and each time we have reconnected with the outdoors and taken memories of these areas of outstanding beauty in the form of feathers.

β€œEvery forest, stream and moor has shown us down the feather trail and every trail is an exploration of a journey that we should experience wherever we go.

β€œOur hope is that in this space we have created, everyone can find their way along the feather trail.”

TikTok account @theyorkshirerose_, who profiles the β€œbest stays, activities and food in Yorkshire”, described the cafΓ© as a β€œcosy little hideaway”.

The content creators revealed in a video: β€œIs this North Yorkshire’s most hidden gem? This is Feather Trail Cafe, a cosy little hideaway tucked just off the main square in the picturesque market town of Helmsley.

β€œWhether you’re stopping by for a quick coffee or settling with a book and a slice of something sweet, Feather Trail is the place for you.

β€œThey use locally roasted coffee from Dancing Goat and believe in consistent good quality homemade affordable food and excellent service.”

They added: β€œOn the menu you’ll find a mouth-watering selection of light bites and they’ve got plenty of sweet treats to choose from too, with homemade cakes, cupcakes and more, and there’s also plenty of veggie and vegan options as well.

β€œFor our food we tried the chocolate and fresh fruit pancakes, the avocado and bacon on toast, and a sausage and bacon breakfast sandwich.

β€œEverything was so tasty, fresh and beautifully presented.”

This person posted: β€œWe stopped off with our large dog for a drink. However once we saw the menu, this became eggs on toast and a cake for me. The eggs were really nice was and so was the cake.

β€œWe both had a loose tea which was nice and the lady provided us with extra water. They also gave us a complementary bottle of water for the table. There was also plenty of room for our large dog to relax which is always appreciated. Our first time here and it won’t be our last.”

A second profile wrote: β€œBeautiful little cafe, friendly attentive staff, very quick service and one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever eaten.

β€œThe chorizo on the avocado on toast is unbelievable. We live an hour and a half away and came as a stop off on our way home from a break away and so glad we chose here!

We are already planning when we can come back to explore the town a little more but mostly return for that Chorizo.
