Songbird bakery to close Middlesbrough shop after ten years

The Songbird Bakery on Bedford Street said it would not be renewing its lease on the site as it “does not suit our business”.

In a statement on Facebook the company said: β€œAfter ten amazing years on Bedford Street we have made the decision to not renew our lease on the shop from February.

β€œBut don’t worry, Songbird Bakery will still be continuing, we are just moving as the location does not suit our business anymore.”

The bakery, known for its bespoke cakes, cupcakes and brownies for all occasions, said existing and future orders will not be affected.

The post said: β€œAll current and future cake orders remain unaffected. We will be in touch regarding collections and/or deliveries.”

It will continue to operate for collections and deliveries across Middlesbrough and Stockton.

The owners also took the opportunity to thank customers for their support over the years.

β€œWe would like to thank everyone for your support and orders over the years and we look forward to many more in our next chapter,” they said.

Customers quickly took to social media, saying the bakery β€œwill be missed” in the town centre.

One person said: β€œTen years has gone so quickly! We will miss you.”

While another person commented: β€œAs long as I can keep getting my cakes, I’m happy. You have been with us through all our celebrations.”

Songbird Bakery has yet to announce a new location or closing date.
