RWO lands new work on Liverpool waterfront expansion traded

RWO, in Stokesley, is supporting the ongoing transformation of Liverpool’s historic docks, where its geoenvironmental team is carrying out ground investigations to secure a new location for one of the original propellers of RMS Lusitania.

The work forms part of a wider scheme led by National Museums Liverpool to create a lasting memorial to the Lusitania, a British ocean liner sunk during the First World War by a German submarine, resulting in the loss of 1,195 lives.

Chris Rudd, director of geoenvironmental at RWO, said: “This additional work for Liverpool docks reflects our ability to turnaround projects rapidly, strengthening our relationship with the client as a go-to ground engineering specialist, capable of supporting infrastructure and inward investment initiatives.

“Over the next 12-18 months, we will see opportunities right across the UK as facility operators and owners bring forward their investment and development plans.”

The latest project follows initial geoenvironmental work completed by RWO last year and comes amid continued growth in the company’s geoenvironmental department, which aims to achieve Β£1 million in revenue by 2026.

RWO is also recruiting additional geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineers to support current and future projects.

Further work at Liverpool docks includes drilling deep boreholes into rock and conducting pressure meter tests as part of preparations for a new bridge between docks.

The team is also carrying out trenching to assess the make-up of the dock structure, in close collaboration with RWO’s structural engineering team, and is undertaking a full land contamination assessment.

The improvements form part of a long-term masterplan to redevelop the area between the Royal Albert Dock and Mann Island.

Plans include new pedestrian bridge connections to Canning Dock and the revitalisation of several waterfront buildings.

A key feature of the scheme is the redevelopment of the Dr Martin Luther King Jr Building, which serves as a prominent gateway to the city’s International Slavery Museum.

RWO delivers civil, structural, and geoenvironmental engineering services to major housebuilders and construction firms across the UK.

The company works on a variety of regional and national infrastructure schemes, supporting investment and development at scale.
