He said: “The school had been struggling to attract students but I am delighted to hear that it is now oversubscribed.

“It is commendable that the school is focussing on fundamentals, like reading, but also developing expertise in special education, with the TMP unit helping to bridge the gap to mainstream schooling.

“Julia Polley’s work with her team to improve the school is very impressive.”

During the visit, Mr Sunak was welcomed by headteacher Julia Polley, head girl Magda Pleskacz, and deputy head boy Charlie Wilkinson.

He took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the library and led a discussion with students about the value of reading.

Mrs Polley also briefed him on the school’s work in special educational needs (SEN) and spoke about the Government’s plan to reform SEN provision.

A White Paper setting out the Government’s proposals is expected shortly.

During his tour of the TMP unit, Mr Sunak met staff, students, and Roscoe, the school’s spaniel therapy dog.

Mrs Polley said: “Welcoming Mr Sunak back to our school was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the inclusive, vibrant culture we have built here.

“I was especially delighted by our students’ surprise and excitement as they spoke to him; they are, as always, our best ambassadors.

“Reopening our student-led library was a real highlight, alongside the opportunity for a candid conversation about the realities of rural education.

“It is vital that the unique challenges faced by smaller schools are understood, and I am grateful for Mr Sunak’s continued support.

“This recognition is a real boost for both staff and students.”
