Consultant Hip and Knee Surgeon Mr Manju Ramappa is hosting the event, which starts at 6pm. Mr Manju Ramappa is a high-volume hip and knee replacement surgeon with a practice focused on improving outcomes for people with hip and knee arthritis. Whilst he sees privately insured, self-paying and NHS patients, Mako® surgery is only available to private patients.

Mr Ramappa is one of the first surgeons in the country to pioneer day case hip and knee replacement surgery, offering selected patients the chance to go home on the same day as their operation. He is strongly focused on enhanced recovery, aiming to help all his hip and knee replacement patients get back on their feet and back to normal life as quickly and safely as possible.

People who have already seen a physiotherapist for hip or knee pain, and who may be waiting for an appointment with their GP or on an NHS waiting list, could be particularly interested in attending the event to hear how advances in hip and knee replacement using the Mako® system could benefit them.

The Mako® surgical system is an innovative robotic tool that allows consultants to perform hip and knee replacement surgeries with greater accuracy and precision than is usually possible with traditional techniques. While the idea of “robot surgery” can sound daunting, a robotic total hip or knee replacement is still carried out by an orthopaedic surgeon. The technology is designed to aid the surgeon, not replace them, and the procedure remains firmly in the hands of an experienced consultant throughout.

Mako® hip and knee replacement surgery is only available for private patients at Woodlands Hospital. However, people with a range of funding routes are welcome at the open evening to find out more about what is available and to ask questions about their options.
