Old Post Office in Haworth is named cosiest place to eat

The Old Post Office in Haworth is where “everything is just a little bit special” according to The Yorkshireman, thanks to its seasonal winter and autumn dishes full of “hearty flavour and local ingredients.”

The café on Main Street has a remarkable link with history in the village too, as it still has the original post office counter where the iconic Brontë sisters would send their novel manuscripts to their publishers back in the day.

Charlotte, Emily, and Anne were born in Thornton near Bradford but grew up in Haworth.

Earlier this year, Haworth Old Post Office also featured in the best brunch and lunch category in OpenTable’s top 100 UK list, as well as the outdoor dining category.

In an Instagram video, The Yorkshireman, who is a popular local travel and food expert shared: “The Old Post Office in Haworth is a homely all day dining destination, offering stunning seasonal dishes over the village’s original post office counter, where the Brontë sisters sent their manuscripts to their publishers.

“Expect tonnes of cosy dishes on the menu, reflecting the season – from warming camembert to comforting burgers, alongside an array of small plates and mains, all designed to satisfy those food cravings with hearty flavours and local ingredients.

“Flavour was truly at the heart of everything, from the garlic sourdough and chutney with the camembert, to the inventive burger taking on different themes.

“Everything is just a little bit special, from seasonal hot chocolates and cocktails to the iced drinks and autumnal coffees, which of course change all the time, so there’s something new to try each visit.

“It’s a beautiful lease of life for the old post office and a must-visit next time you’re in Haworth.”

Over on Tripadvisor, the Old Post Office has 117 “excellent” reviews out of a possible 127.

Someone wrote: “Probably the best sandwich I have ever eaten! If you like chicken , garlic and sourdough toast, fill yer boots here. Staff and food worthy of praise. Location, perfect. Coffee, passable. Great place to watch the world go by if sitting near the window.”

This happy customer added: “Lovely lunch at the Old Post Office, very good menu, excellent drinks – especially the Autumn Fizz – and a relaxed, warm atmosphere. I wish everywhere was this good.”

A third person commented: “Had a lovely lunch here, savoury scones and a ginger syrup sponge. All very tasty. Staff friendly. Great spot at the top of the old high street. Fabulous interior. It set us up very nicely before a walk up to Top Withens.”
