Northumberland pub to reopen after Michelin-star venue moves

The Hadrian Hotel in Wall, Northumberland, is set to reopen under new management as a pub and dining venue after the departure of Hjem at the end of December 2025.

The relaunch is being led by hospitality duo Jack Brown and Alice Lawson.

Mr Brown, who co-owns Nest and Flight bar in Heaton and previously managed Hide, said: “We are opening as a full hotel and we will have a fine dining restaurant on the side and a pub on the other side.”

The pub is looking to open the venue in the first week of March after some internal work is finished.

“Everyone and their gran has been in to have a mooch about and see what’s happening,” he added.

Mr Brown, 36, brings 20 years of experience in the industry, including roles at Newton Hall, the Joiners Arms, and the Crowne Plaza.

He said: “I am super excited.

“We are going to this next level that we have wanted for some time, but we are ready and raring for it.

“We are bringing the team with us from Hide, it gives them the opportunity to keep their jobs.”

The Hadrian Hotel will offer traditional pub food, including classics like fish and chips and pies, but Mr Brown said there will also be room for creativity.

He said: “We are going to use the specials board to play around with what people might like to see more of.”

Hjem is currently based in the South Causey Inn near Stanley where it has a residency for the next six months.
