Mrs B’s Deli Newgate Street Bishop Auckland to close

Mrs B’s Deli on Newgate Street first opened its doors in November 2023, and has become a lunchtime favourite for its tasty sandwiches, drinks and even desserts.

But now, due to the “lack of passing trade” in the town and spiralling costs, it will close on May 15.

Confirming the news on Friday (April 10), owner Terrie Bambridge thanked customers for their support, adding “this isn’t goodbye”.

A Facebook post reads: “After a lot of thought, I’ve made the difficult decision to close Mrs B’s Deli.

“Running the deli has been such a huge part of my life, and I’ve loved serving our amazing customers and being part of the Bishop Auckland community. Your support, chats, and smiles have meant everything to me.

“However, with a little one to look after, it’s become increasingly hard to give the business the time and energy it deserves.

“Alongside this, the lack of passing trade in Bishop Auckland has made things even more challenging as well as the increasing costs of stock etc. Because of this, my final day of trading will be May 15.

“But I do want to say — this isn’t goodbye. This is the end of the shop, but not the end of Mrs B’s.

“Mrs B’s is more than just the deli. It’s my passion, my baking, and the love I put into everything I create — and that’s not going anywhere.

“There are still exciting things to come, just in a way that works better around family life.

“I just want to say a massive thank you to every single person who has supported Mrs B’s Deli – whether you popped in daily or just once, it truly means the world.”
