Koselig in Saltburn was forced to close after break in attempt


Koselig on Milton Street in Saltburn, was targeted overnight on Wednesday into Thursday (March 11-12).

The door to the bakery and cafΓ© was broken and windows were smashed up, police said.

Pictures posted to social media on Thursday showed the damage caused by the attempted break-in.

The bakery wrote on Facebook yesterday: “Someone attempted to break into our bakeshop on Milton Street overnight, so we need to keep the shop shut while we sort everything out.

“I woke up this morning to loads of messages from customers who had walked past and spotted what had happened… so firstly, thank you for letting us know and for checking in. It really means a lot.

“You care deeply about the place you’ve built, and when something like this happens, there’s no real switch off.”

Koselig reopened on Friday morning and thanked its customers for sending “hundreds of kind messages of support”.

The bakery opened its third store in Stokesley at the start of this month. It also has a store in Guisborough.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 8am on Thursday (March 12) police received a report of criminal damage to a bakery on Milton Street in Saltburn.

“The door to the cafΓ© was broken and windows were smashed. It is believed to have taken place between 3.30pm on Wednesday (March 11) and 8am on Thursday (March 12).

“Anyone who has information can call Cleveland Police on 101 quoting reference number 046348.”
