Heck Sausages sells out after Leeds schoolgirl’s input

Olivia Molyneux, a primary school pupil from Leeds, won HECK’s ‘design a sausage of your dreams’ competition over the summer and has since seen her winning flavour fly off the shelves.

The competition, run by Yorkshire-based food company HECK, invited children from across the UK to design their own sausage, complete with drawings, names, and unique ingredient ideas.

Olivia’s entry combined two classic comfort foodsβ€”sausages and baked beansβ€”to create the Baked Bean Banger, which has since become a sell-out sensation.

Calum Smith, HECK’s sausage scientist, helped bring the recipe to life at the company’s headquarters.

Jamie Keeble, co-founder of HECK, said: “We were blown away by the imagination on display.

“Kids think about food in such a fun, fearless way and the Baked Bean Banger is a real winner.

“Olivia’s idea of a sausage featuring β€˜raining beans’ is clever, nostalgic, and mixes two of Britain’s best-loved dinners to put a smile on everyone’s face.

“If you’re a baked bean fan, this is one sausage you won’t want to miss.”

The sausages are made with British pork, Heinz No Added Sugar Baked Beans, and a tomato-based seasoning.

They are high in protein, gluten-free, and versatile enough for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Olivia said: “I really liked doing this competition.

“I love sausages and I love beans, so I thought they’d taste good together.

“It’s exciting seeing my idea turned into a real sausage, so I hope people like them.”

The special edition packs, which feature Olivia’s name, have almost completely sold out since launching on November 6.

HECK is now in talks with major supermarkets about a wider national rollout.

Olivia will also visit HECK’s North Yorkshire headquarters to spend a day learning about sausage making.

She will also receive a bumper bundle of sausages and burgers as part of her prize.

This year’s competition follows a similar contest last summer when HECK partnered with Bedale Primary School.

Eight-year-old Lola Fenn won with her Honey Lemon & Chicken Sausage, which went on sale via the HECK! website and in Booths supermarkets.

HECK hopes the competition will continue to inspire young food enthusiasts.

The company described the response to Olivia’s Baked Bean Banger as “sizzling” and is encouraging fans to place last-minute orders via its website before midnight tonight.

The Baked Bean Banger can be paired with eggs and toast, served in a breakfast sandwich, or added to a casserole.

HECK believes the competition helps nurture creativity and a love of food among children.

The company has praised Olivia for her “simple brilliance” and the “nostalgic appeal” of her flavour.
