First look inside Radgie’s, Darlington’s new takeaway

Radgie’s, which opens on Friday (February 13), has transformed a long-vacant unit on Victoria Road into a striking hot pink and black street food venue, complete with glowing neon signs.

The eyecatching interior is impossible to miss and is designed to make a statement, decked out with a vibrant pink colour scheme running throughout the venue, contrasting with a black counter and bright signage.

The new takeaway is the brainchild of 23-year-old Darlington entrepreneur Ishy Miah, who grew up working in hospitality at his family’s restaurant, CafΓ© Spice.

Radgie’s will be serving up a mix of American and South Asian-inspired dishes, including smash burgers, Nashville chicken, pizzas, curry and parmos – flavours the owner says are inspired by food typically found in the big cities.

Speaking previously about the new venture, Ishy said he wanted to bring something different to the town.

He said: β€œWith the whole name and the theme, I just thought, it’s quite fun and bold. It stands out, as we’re not your normal pizza shop.

β€œWe’re different, so I chose a unique name and a unique theme with the bold pink to stand out from the rest. You’ll never forget it because it’s that different.”

The new business has undergone a full refurbishment ahead of opening, with the space stripped back and completely redesigned.

Ishy said: β€œWhen we first got it, it had been empty for a while. We literally stripped it back to bare brick.

β€œFloors were removed, ceilings were redone, walls were reboarded, plastered, skimmed, decorated – everything is brand spanking new.”

As opening day approaches, the owner said there have been some hurdles along the way.

He said: β€œWe thought we were ready and then things came up and it’s been a bit stressful.

β€œThere’s been a few obstacles along the way, but our main focus is getting everything ready for opening now.

β€œWe’re sticking with that opening date and hopefully we can get everything done. We’re almost there now.”

Taking to social media on Tuesday (February 10), the team confirmed the opening this week, saying: β€œSee you Friday Radgies.”

You can find the new takeaway venue on 89 Victoria Road, Darlington.
