County Durham family win Β£1 million on National Lottery
The family won the million pound draw on the National Lottery after matching five main numbers and the Bonus Ball in Saturdayβs Lotto draw on August 23.
The relatives, who have not been named, said they had long talked about winning together and deliberately played as a syndicate so everyone would share any big prize.
Speaking about the win, a representative from the family said: βWe always dreamed as a family we would win the lottery, so we play as a syndicate so no one would miss out if we ever did win.
βWe never expected to win such a huge prize. This will make a world of difference to our family and each personβs future.β
The Β£1 million prize was secured in the main Lotto draw, delivering what the family described as a life changing moment.
Andy Carter, senior winnersβ advisor at Allwyn, the operator of the National Lottery, said: βWe are absolutely delighted for our Durham winners, and are so pleased that they can share this life-changing prize and special memory as a family!β
The win adds to a long list of major National Lottery prizes paid out across the region, with County Durham players regularly landing significant sums.
Players are able to buy and check tickets online through the National Lottery app or website, as well as in retail outlets.
Online tickets are automatically checked and winners are notified by email, while retail tickets can be scanned using the app.
National Lottery games also contribute to wider funding across the UK. Around Β£32 million is generated each week for National Lottery funded projects, with more than Β£52 billion raised for good causes since the lottery began.
Funding supports projects in every postcode area, including arts, sport, community initiatives and the preservation of historic landmarks.
