Cockerton Fisheries on Woodland Road took to social media as it talked about its “amazing day”.
At one point, queues reached more than 90 minutes at the fish and chip shop.
The chippy said: “What an amazing day yesterday.
“A huge thank you to everyone who came down to Cockerton Fisheries β the support was incredible from start to finish. The amount of work that went into the day really paid off, and everything ran like a dream.
“I honestly canβt thank you all enough. The evening was so busy, with queues at one point reaching nearly 1.5 hoursβ¦ just unbelievable.
“You guys are amazing”.
Fryers were fired up across the region yesterday (April 3) as businesses prepared to sell three times the normal amount of fish to hungry punters.Β
Good Friday fish and chips is a tradition that stems from the Christian belief that we should eat fish to honour Jesus Christ’s sacrifice of his flesh on the cross.
Pictures taken yesterday lunchtime showed a long line of people already forming at Cockerton Fisheries, which was expecting queues around the shopping parade from 11am until 8pm.

Samantha Todd, who has run the chippy for the last nine years, said teams had been preparing for Good Friday since last week.
She previously told The Northern Echo said: “There is a lot of organisation such as the staff and rotas for the day because it is intense. We order so much more fish for Good Friday than any other time of the year.
“We sell more than three times the amount of fish on Good Friday than we do on a regular Friday.”
Darlington was recently named one of the best towns in the country for fish and chips.
