Chester-le-Street pub hosts beer festival with Β£2.89 pints

The Wicket Gate in Chester-le-Street will offer 25 real ales, including five international brews from Brazil, Italy, Mexico, Spain, and the USA, during the festival.

This marks the first time the pub has served a real ale from Mexico.

Stewart Grayson, pub manager, said: “The festival is a great celebration of real ale.

“It will allow us to showcase a selection of superb beers, featuring many not previously available to our customers in the pub, including those from brewers as far afield as Mexico and Brazil as well as those closer to home, over a 12-day period.

“All of the beers will be available at great value-for-money prices.”

The festival runs from Wednesday, March 4, to Sunday, March 15.

Almost all of the ales have been brewed for the first time, exclusively for the festival.

Three of the options are vegan, and several feature unique ingredients such as coffee, elderflower, hibiscus, maple syrup, orange, and vanilla.

Each pint will cost Β£2.89.

The international selections include Tropical from Cervejaria Bodebrown (Brazil), Read the Room from Good Word Brewing (USA), Session IPA from Malteza (Mexico), Vicious IPA from Almogaver (Spain), and Nigredo from Birrificio Italiano (Italy).

Other ales on offer include Lucky β€˜Lips (Shepherd Neame), Pitch Perfect (Vale), Crimson Legend (Brains), Salem Coastal Confusion (Batemans), Shug Monkey (Elgood’s), and Brewed Awakening (Hook Norton).

Customers can order three third-of-a-pint tasters for the price of a full pint.

Tasting notes will be available in a printed festival magazine at the pub, as well as in digital format through the Wetherspoon app and website.

All ales can be ordered at the bar or via the Wetherspoon app.
