‘Cheese on toast to die for’ the Yorkshire Dales hidden gem cafe

The Corner House Cafe is located in Grassington, the home of Channel 5’s All Creatures Great and Small, and is ran by husband-and-wife team chef Declan and baker Sarah.

Recent customers have particularly recommended the cheese on toast which is “to die for” and made “exactly as it should be”.

On its website, The Corner House Cafe shares: “We are a truly independent, family run cafe set in the beautiful town of Grassington, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. 

“We are passionate about quality and are proud to bring you the very best locally sourced ingredients.

“Opened in October 2014, we offer high quality and exciting food in our relaxed and friendly cafe.

“If you love great coffee, delicious food and decadent cakes, we’d love you to join us.”

It adds: “We wanted to create a cafe with a difference.

“We work hard to provide that little bit more, in our food, our service, the ambience and of course our welcome.

“We wanted to bridge the gap between a cafe and a restaurant, we feel we’re well on the way.”

The Corner House Cafe explains: “Declan is the genius in the kitchen, creating wonderful dishes and having over 30 years’ experience, he really does work tirelessly to produce food of the best possible standard.

“Sarah is the baker, ‘I love baking and I’m always on the lookout for a new recipe to try, and love to develop new ones of my own’.

“There’s always lots of decadent cakes to choose from.

“We have four children too, and they can often be seen helping out at the weekend! We really are a family business.”

The Corner House Cafe regularly changes its menu, making the most of seasonal availability. 

The team works closely with local suppliers to offer the “very best” the market has to offer.

From cinnamon toast to omelettes, breakfast sandwiches and classic full English dishes, the cafe details its brekkie staples (served until 11.30am) are all prepared fresh to order, using locally sourced award-winning sausages and black pudding.

It continues: “Even our milk and cream come fresh from the dairy a few hundred yards up the road, and we only ever use free range eggs.”

Additionally, just some of the lunch offerings at this “lovely” foodie spot include the grilled panini or bacon or sausage sandwich, in hand carved white or granary bloomer, as well as the popular burger – 6oz of ground beef steak served in a toasted brioche bun with house relish.

When it comes to cakes and bakes, you can expect the likes of a “best ever” carrot cake or a rich and indulgent Rolo cake.

There’s even a citrus lavender syrup cake, “amazingly light with a subtle zing”.

Plus, The Corner House Cafe reveals it’s been praised a “gluten-free haven” in recent Tripadvisor reviews by visitors.

Yorkshire Dales ‘hidden gem’ cafe known for cheese on toast ‘to die for’

On the well-known tourism review website, the eatery currently has a 4.8/5 rating based on 625 reviews – 541 of which are rated as “excellent”.

Someone posted: “Cheese on toast to die for, gorgeous flavour with a lovely little side salad (didn’t release their secret ingredients though ha ha).

“Herbs tea was full of flavour and not drying in the mouth like some. Staff are lovely, I will be recommending to all my fellow travellers xx.”

Another wrote: “Absolutely hit the spot on a freezing cold day in Grassington- simple food done incredibly well.

“Cheese on toast was exactly as it should be- a thick layer of molten cheese on a hefty chunk of home-made bread.

“Moroccan veg soup was hot, well spiced and full of flavour. Staff were just as good as the food- smiling, attentive and well-organised. Will return, for sure!”
