By-election set to be held as Redcar councillor resigns
A notice of a βcasual vacancyβ published by Redcar and Cleveland Council just prior to Christmas confirmed the resignation of Zetland ward member, Councillor Jonny Neal and sought requests in writing for an election to fill the vacancy, which will be triggered should at least two be received.
Cllr Neal was originally elected in 2023, representing Labour, but quit the local group earlier this year to sit as an independent instead.
Elections were held in Skelton and South Bank this year (2025) after councillor departures from the local authority.
The next set of local elections for the entire borough are not due to be held until May 2027.
The local Labour group, led by council leader Alec Brown, currently has minority control of the council.
