Bellway wins six awards for staff engagement tool
Newcastle-based Bellway launched its employee engagement app and desktop intranet, Pathway, in May 2024.
The platform was designed to improve communication with staff, particularly those in hard-to-reach construction site roles.
Paul Lawler, group head of communications at Bellway, said: “Pathway has completely transformed how we communicate within Bellway, bringing a much richer experience than the restrictive top-down approach we had previously.
“Fostering a culture of two-way communication and collaboration with employees was one of our main objectives when we began devising Pathway, and the interactive nature of the app has helped us to achieve this.
“It has also supported the work Bellway is doing to be an employer of choice by increasing levels of engagement and interaction with employees.
“This year, 91 per cent of Bellway staff rated Bellway as a βgreat place to workβ in our annual Employee Engagement Survey.
“The improvements and efficiencies achieved by Pathway have delivered significant benefits to Bellway and its employees, and we are delighted that the projectβs achievements have received such strong recognition from within the internal communications sector.”
Within five weeks of launch, more than 60 per cent of employees had registered for the app, rising to 95 per cent, exceeding industry benchmarks.
Bellway estimated a 10-times return on investment in terms of improved productivity, engagement, and risk reduction.
The rollout of Pathway earned Bellway six internal communications awards over the course of the last year.
At the Gallagher Communications and Digital Experience Awards last month, the company was highly commended for Best Channel Strategy and commended for Best Intranet.
At the CorpComms Awards, Pathway was highly commended for Best Employee Engagement Strategy.
In June, Bellway won three ICE (Internal Communications and Engagement) Awards: gold for Best Use of Mobile/Apps, and two silvers for Internal Communications by Sector and Best Engagement of a Disparate or Remote Workforce.
The platform also supports Bellway’s sustainability objectives by communicating its climate change vision, promoting mental health resources, and encouraging staff involvement in fundraising for Cancer Research UK.
Pathway was developed in collaboration with communications specialists Staffbase.
It underwent a 12-month testing phase with 300 employees from various areas of the business before its official launch.
Bellway said the platform is helping the company achieve its goal of being an employer of choice and promoting a more engaged and informed workforce.
